HEY, It's Me!

As a queer theater maker who grew up in the diverse, boundary pushing community of Philadelphia, prioritizing equity, problem-solving, and joy are my core values as a leader in any creative process. Having graduated from The University of the Arts with a dual degree in Directing and Theater Production, I am passionate about supporting and creating tight, diverse, and safe theater experiences. As a director, I always say I take a person-first approach to the process. By that I mean I approach each piece of work and new process thinking about who is in the room with me first and foremost. Everyone, including the creative team, is bringing something different to the show. Creating art in this day and age, in the world that we are living in, can feel close to impossible. Yet, we do. What comes along with that however, are folks coming to processes with intensely unique life experiences. My mission is to honor that, and hold a mirror up to the world around us, should the work call for it.

We create theater for a myriad of reasons, all of which are based in innate truths within ourselves and the world around us, this truth is what I am looking to explore, nurture, and meet where it’s at. Creatively this looks like building character from a place of honesty within a container that we build together, as well as constantly keeping an open conversation directly with playwrights and composers. Any actor or creative who has worked with me has felt, and will feel seen, heard, and understood in a way that creates safety, honesty, and genuine, raw work.

As a playwright and author, Cam strives to make work that is seat-shifting. They like to have audiences and readers sit through the terribly awkward memories of being thirteen, yet laugh while remembering their first time falling in love. As a director, they strive for similar things. You can find their work in backyards, townhouses, closets, and anywhere else it ends up needing to be.

Cam has their BFA from The University of the Arts in Directing, Playwriting, and Production. They are the Associate Artistic Director of The Makers Ensemble and an alumnus of Headlong Performance Institute.
